James brings an integrative approach to therapy, combining aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (including Mindfulness), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to find the best way forward for each client. He has experiences working with clients of all ages, across settings (including hospital emergency department, school, group-home, and in-home). James specializes in helping people experiencing anxiety, depression, impulsive/risk-taking behaviors, and interpersonal conflict. He enjoys meeting with individuals, couples, and families. His first priority is in collaborating with his clients to create spaces where change feels possible. He is especially attentive to the ideas of reducing stigma surrounding mental health care, trust associated with strict confidentiality, and increasing motivation using strengths- and evidence-based techniques.
When able, James enjoys playing basketball, reading (mostly sci-fi!), rock climbing, and listening to far too many podcasts. He dislikes running, though begrudgingly does so most days.
